PRECISE PL2 is a high-power external UHF radio that extends the range and stability of RTK correction links when a receiver's built-in radio isn't enough. It carries correction data from base to rover more reliably; it doesn't calculate positions or improve accuracy itself.

Challenge

RTK measurement depends on a continuous stream of correction data from base to rover. On large sites, in hilly terrain, or where buildings and vegetation block line of sight, a receiver's built-in radio, limited by its transmit power, antenna size, and power budget, can lose that link. When it does, the rover drops out of fixed solution, has to re-initialize, and the crew loses time waiting instead of measuring.

Solution

PL2 is an external UHF radio with selectable 10 W or 30 W output across the 410–470 MHz band, with configurable channel spacing, air rate, and modulation to match different sites and equipment. A receiver sensitivity better than -116 dBm, plus adjacent-channel and blocking immunity, keeps the link stable under weak-signal and RF-crowded conditions.

How It Works

From Setup to Result

The base station generates RTK correction data

A GNSS base station (such as PRECISE BASE2 or another compatible base) generates RTK correction data as usual.

PL2 transmits the correction data at higher power

PL2 connects to the base's data output and transmits the correction data over UHF at the selected power level (10 W or 30 W) and configured frequency, channel spacing, air rate, and modulation.

The rover-side radio receives the correction stream

A compatible receiving radio on the rover side picks up the correction stream, thanks to PL2's high sensitivity and interference resistance, and passes it to the RTK rover receiver.

The rover receiver computes the fixed position

The rover receiver uses the correction data to compute its fixed-solution position, exactly as it would with any other correction source. PL2's role ends at delivering the data reliably; positioning accuracy remains a function of the GNSS receiver and algorithm.

Common Questions

No. PL2 is a communication device: it transmits RTK correction data over UHF at higher power and does not calculate positions or improve accuracy itself. Positioning accuracy is determined by the GNSS receiver, its algorithm, and site conditions on both the base and rover side.

PRECISE does not publish a fixed distance figure, because actual range depends on antenna height and gain, terrain, obstructions, frequency and channel configuration, RF interference, base station placement, and local radio regulations. The 10 W / 30 W selectable output increases the link budget, which supports longer working ranges than a typical built-in radio, but it is not a guaranteed distance.
